Tarrytown guide area

The City of Austin does not publish a current GIS feature that defines Tarrytown by itself. The guide map shows the larger West Austin Neighborhood Group planning area and marks Tarrytown as a reference point.

The plan discusses Deep Eddy separately in some sections. Places near the neighborhood boundary are labeled by address.

About the mapThe guide area is for orientation. It is not a legal, school, zoning, flood, survey, parcel, association, or MLS boundary.

History of Tarrytown

  1. City records describe dairy and agricultural uses, along with lime-kiln and quarry activity, before residential subdivision.

  2. Walsh Place, near today's Walsh Boat Landing, was platted in 1915. Westfield and Monte Vista followed in the 1920s.

  3. The first Tarry-Town subdivision was platted in 1934, followed by additional plats from the late 1930s through the 1950s. The name did not begin all residential development in the area.

  4. Tarrytown Shopping Center dates to 1939. Its tenant history changed substantially, and the available records do not resolve every original tenant or developer detail.

  5. Tarrytown Pharmacy says it opened in 1941 at 3310 Windsor Road. It now operates at 2727 Exposition Boulevard; the date does not mean it occupied one storefront continuously.

Homes in Tarrytown

The City's 2010 plan describes Tarrytown as mainly one- and two-story detached houses, with scattered duplexes and multifamily buildings along parts of Enfield Road and Pecos Street.

The plan was published in 2010 and does not describe every block or property.

Current neighborhood-wide figures for architectural styles, building types, and market activity are not included.

Subdivision dates

Recorded subdivision dates range from 1915 through the 1950s, but a neighborhood or plat date does not establish a house's age, condition, or architectural style.

Property conditions

Larger replacement houses, impervious cover, drainage, tree loss, topography, deed restrictions, easements, permits, and historic status require an exact-address review.

Property checks in Tarrytown

  1. 01

Confirm the legal parcel, subdivision, zoning, overlays, permits, contours, watershed, floodplain screening, impervious cover, and historic layers in City records.

  2. 02

Use FloodPro and property-specific drainage or engineering records rather than inferring flood status from a lake or creek.

  4. 04

Review deed restrictions, easements, tree constraints, and active building, demolition, or development cases.

  6. 06

Run the exact address through Austin ISD's current school-year locator.
